Dual Channel, Dual Trace TDR from Megger Features 600 V CAT IV Input Protection Filter
TDR2050 ideal for detecting illegal wire taps, cable faults and maintaining rail network signaling
Megger, one of the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of test equipment and measuring instruments for electrical power applications, now offers an advanced dual channel, dual trace time domain reflectometer (TDR) that locates faults on paired metallic cables. The TDR2050 is the first in its class to have a 600 V CAT IV input protection filter built into it, giving technicians the ability to connect to known live lines.
This new TDR is ideal for detecting illegal wire taps without having to power down the line. By having the ability to connect to potentially live circuits, the TDR2050 is a more flexible instrument suited for a wider range of applications including locating cable faults as part of a responsive or routine maintenance program, electrical inspection during quality checks, testing reels of cable for shipping damage, maintaining rail network signal communications and power cabling as well as ensuring safe and efficient state of commercial heating and air conditioning cable.
Featuring a large (800 x 480 pixels), extra high-resolution (to 0.1 m), backlit, WVGA color LCD display with easy set up features, the TDR’s graphic display has a vibrancy that helps the user identify key events on the trace. The unit’s directional control buttons and soft keys provide easy operation.
Megger’s compact TDR2050 offers an auto selection option that ensures the most effective parameters are chosen depending on the range required. This option aids in the rapid diagnosis of the TDR trace. If necessary, the auto function can be manually overridden, allowing the user to fine tune the test and identify hard to determine faults.
The unit’s dual trace and dual cursor capabilities gives the operator complete control and instant notification of distance between two points. The TDR2050’s trace comparison feature allows for close examination between trace conditions.
By using Megger’s TraceXpert software, up to 100 trace memories can be stored and can later be recalled on the display for analysis or compared with an active display to help in identifying fault locations. Results can also be downloaded to a computer via the unit’s USB port.
The TDR2050 features six output impedances, 25 Ω, 50 Ω, 75 Ω, 100 Ω 125 Ω and 140 Ω, and a velocity factor between 0.20 and 0.99.
Step and pulse TDR selections come standard. The TDR2050’s step function eliminates the dead zone effect typical of standard pulse TDRs, where near-end faults are masked, making them undetectable.
The rugged TDR2050 is IP54 rated.
