Anti-Theft Cable Retainer Assembly

Copper thieves have become an everyday occurrence all over the country. To make a fast buck, they steal anything that can be sold to scrap dealers. The theft of copper wire from street lights causes damage to the light pole and interrupts electrical service. These criminals have caused over $500,000 in damages to the street light systems of Kansas City, MO alone. They remove hand-hole covers from two adjacent poles, cut the copper wires and remove them; thus, leaving repair and replacement cost for the city.

The Kansas City Street Lighting Department turned to Pelco Products, Inc. for a solution. Within weeks, the engineering team had designed and built the new Anti-Theft Cable Retainer. The assembly is installed between the pole and foundation, where it clamps the copper wires in place. The cost of the assembly and installation labor is a fraction of the cost of repair or cable replacement.

The Anti-Theft Cable Retainer can be utilized in new and existing installations. The assembly is fabricated from hot dip galvanized steel. The clamp bolts and hardware are made of corrosion resistant stainless steel. The urethane retainer pads separate and clamp multiple cable sizes, ranging from 3/16” to 1/2”. Wiring can be clamped from the top or bottom. The Anti-Theft Cable Retainer is available in multiple sizes, with four slotted holes to accommodate a wide range of pole mounting hardware diameters and bolt circles.
